David J. Getsy is Eleanor Shea Professor of Art History at the University of Virginia. His books include Queer Behavior: Scott Burton and Performance Art (2022), Queer (2016), Abstract Bodies: Sixties Sculpture in the Expanded Field of Gender (2015), and Rodin: Sex and the Making of Modern Sculpture (2010). He is currently writing a book based on the retrospective exhibition Rubbish and Dreams: The Genderqueer Performance Art of Stephen Varble, which he curated for the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, New York, in 2018–19.
